This is an exciting opportunity for a referral ECC clinician to join us on a 12-month fixed term contract. Applicants should have experience of managing and developing their caseload and be keen to work as part of an experienced, progressive team. You will benefit from working in a multi-disciplinary hospital amongst a highly skilled team of clinicians, RVNs and Animal Care Assistants as we continue to provide an excellent standard of patient care to animals and owners across the North East.
Our ECC department currently consists of 5 daytime vets, including ECC and Medicine Advanced Practitioners. We are supported by a fantastic team of dedicated nurses, including several certificate and diploma holders. We are a friendly, sociable team with a good work ethic and great teamwork. Night-time cover is provided by our colleagues within the OOH team.
In addition to the ECC department, we have highly experienced medicine, cardiology and surgery departments, including an ultrasonographer and radiographer. As well as ECC, we offer referrals in soft tissue surgery including laparoscopy and thoracoscopy, orthopaedics including total hip replacements, spinal surgery, internal medicine, oncology and cardiology.
Our ECC/OOH department provides a 24-hour service, taking ECC referrals and providing care to inpatients in need of critical care, and emergency OOH cover for other local practices, ensuring that our patients receive the highest level of care regardless of the time of day or night.
We offer excellent facilities, including a 1.5T MRI, 160 slice Canon CT, fluoroscopy, laparoscopy/thoracoscopy, arthroscopy, flexible and rigid endoscopy, digital radiography and in house laboratory. The ECC department has a dedicated workspace and equipment, and our clinical team undertakes regular RECOVER CPR training.
Our hospital is located just outside Newcastle-upon-Tyne, within easy reach of the city as well as being close to the stunning Northumberland coastline and the Northumberland National Park, making it an ideal location for those of us with a love of the outdoors.
A full-time position involves an average 40-hour week with daytime (including weekends and Bank Holidays) and evening/twilight shifts covered on a rolling rota basis.
An Emergency and Critical Care (ECC) certificate would be advantageous however previous experience in a similar role is essential. We are looking for people who thrive in a fast paced, challenging yet supportive environment, where first class patient care is at the core of everything we do.
