We have an exciting opportunity for a Surgical Registered Veterinary Nurse to join our busy, fast-paced referral hospital on a 12-month fixed-term contract. You will work alongside a highly skilled and supportive team of RVNs, delivering exceptional care to a diverse and interesting caseload. This role offers the opportunity to work across a wide range of referral disciplines, including orthopaedics, soft tissue surgery, and neurology, allowing you to further develop and utilise your surgical nursing skills in a specialist environment. Moorview Referrals is a fast-paced referral hospital based in beautiful Northumberland, within easy reach of the coastline and Newcastle upon Tyne.
The hospital is purpose-built to industry-leading standards and features state-of-the-art facilities including four theatres (one with fluoroscopy), a CT scanner, multiple ultrasound machines, video flexible and rigid endoscopy/laparoscopy/thoracoscopy/arthroscopy, and an MRI scanner. We offer referral services in orthopaedics, soft tissue surgery, neurology, internal medicine, ECC and cardiology, enabling you to utilise your nursing skills to a full potential with an interesting, diverse caseload.
Responsibilities
- Assist with diagnostic imaging such as CT and radiography
- Monitor anaesthesia and support patient recovery
- Clip and prepare patients for theatre, and scrub in to procedures where required
- Maintain high clinical standards and support the smooth running of surgical procedures within the hospital
- Work with cutting edge facilities as part of a collaborative team
Working pattern
This is a full-time position working 40 hours per week, with flexibility in how those hours are worked. You can choose between four 10-hour shifts or five 8-hour shifts. The role includes a 1-in-5 weekend rota, with time off in lieu, and varied shift times (8:00pm start to 9:00pm finish). There are no compulsory night shifts or on-call, though nurses may be asked to help with cover in the event of last-minute sickness/absence.
Applicant requirements
- Qualified RVN with ability to work independently in some aspects of the role
- Referral experience is desirable, but comprehensive training is provided

- Any additional qualifications are advantageous and you should demonstrate clinical competence in standard nursing protocols
