Penmellyn Vets is a six-site small animal practice based in the heart of mid Cornwall, proudly serving the local community for over 130 years. We are looking for a veterinary surgeon to join our friendly, supportive team who values the client journey as much as excellent patient care and wants to be part of a practice that truly puts people and pets first.
A Varied Caseload That Keeps Things Interesting
Our clients bring us cats, dogs, rabbits, small furries and the occasional local wildlife needing help. You can expect a healthy and rewarding balance between consultations and surgery, with a genuine openness to supporting your clinical interests. Our central hospital in St Columb Major is supported by satellite surgeries in St Austell, Newquay, Pool, Bodmin and Padstow, giving variety without losing that close-knit feel.

As a hospital practice that accepts referrals, our surgical caseload ranges from routine procedures through to orthopaedics and advanced soft tissue work. You will have access to an impressive array of equipment including CT, laparoscopy, endoscopy, digital and dental X-ray, laser therapy and more, all designed to help you practice to a high clinical standard.
Designed for People as Well as Patients
Our purpose-built hospital features a large, welcoming reception, six consultation rooms (including a dedicated RVN consult room), a spacious central prep area with four theatres, dedicated dental and scanning suites, separate kennels, cattery and isolation wards, and a fully equipped in-house IDEXX laboratory. There are also comfortable office spaces, a well-equipped staff room and a large on-site car park to make day-to-day life that little bit easier.
Balance That Respects Your Life Outside Work
This is a full time position working over 4 days a week. You will partake in a 1:5 weekend rota 8:30am – 4pm where you will get time off during the week. There is no OOH or on call and part time applications are welcome.
Responsibilities
- Provide veterinary care across a varied small animal caseload including consultations and surgery.
- Support hospital-level surgical cases from routine procedures to orthopaedics and advanced soft tissue work.
- Work within a team of 28 vets with RVNs and client care staff; collaborate to maintain high clinical standards.
- Engage in continuous development and certificate opportunities with support for achieving qualifications.
- Participate in a 1:5 weekend rota (8:30am – 4pm) with time off during the week; note that there is no OOH or on-call requirement.
- Contribute to a positive client journey and high-quality patient care in a supportive practice environment.
