Penmellyn Veterinary Group have two exciting positions available for small animal veterinary surgeons. One position would suit someone who is primarily interested in emergency and critical care, and the second position would suit a true general practitioner with a range of interests or someone with a bias towards small animal medicine.

Our practice consists of six branches, distributed across mid Cornwall. Our main hospital is located in St Columb Major, a few miles from Newquay. We have a thriving first opinion client base and we also accept referrals in orthopaedic, spinal and soft tissue surgery, diagnostic imaging and emergency and critical care. The practice is modern, well-equipped and has a forward-thinking and proactive ethos. We have a large team of veterinary surgeons and registered veterinary nurses, and many members of our team have obtained or are working towards further qualifications. We strive towards providing the highest possible standards of veterinary care and client service, and we are constantly exploring ways to improve what we do even further. We have excellent facilities and diagnostic equipment, including an on-site CT scanner.

The Emergency and Critical Care (ECC) position would suit a veterinary surgeon who has at least two years of experience. We envisage this being a hybrid role that includes both daytime and night work, although the balance between the two is flexible. You would be part of our established ECC team which consists of dedicated day and night hospital vets, supported by our excellent team of RVNs. You may already have a further qualification in ECC (or a related discipline), or you may be someone who is considering a certificate or who just aspires to work at a high level for the benefit of our hospitalised patients and our clients. We are very happy to support and fund certificate study if this is something that you are considering. This position could be part time or full time, and we have several rota options available.

You would be part of our vibrant team of veterinary surgeons with a large range of clinical interests and expertise. This role could be an opportunity to expand your skills in one or more areas, or to continue to develop your skills and interests across the board. A full time role would involve a varied rota between First Opinion and Out of Hours ECC work. We can accommodate part time applicants through a range of different rota options. Again, we are very happy to support and fund certificate study if this would be of interest to you.
