We have an exciting opportunity for a Surgical Registered Veterinary Nurse to join our busy, fast-paced referral hospital on a 12-month fixed-term contract. You will work alongside a highly skilled and supportive team of RVNs, delivering exceptional care to a diverse and interesting caseload. This role offers the opportunity to work across a wide range of referral disciplines, including orthopaedics, soft tissue surgery, and neurology, allowing you to further develop and utilise your surgical nursing skills in a specialist environment.
Responsibilities
- Assisting with diagnostic imaging such as CT and radiography
- Monitoring anaesthesia
- Supporting patient recovery
- Clipping and preparing patients for theatre
- Scrubbing in to procedures where required
You will play a vital role in maintaining high clinical standards and supporting the smooth running of surgical procedures within the hospital.
Facilities
Moorview Referrals is a fast-paced referral hospital based in beautiful Northumberland, within easy reach of the coastline and the city of Newcastle upon Tyne. The hospital has four theatres (one with fluoroscopy), a CT scanner, multiple ultrasound machines, video flexible and rigid endoscopy/laparoscopy/thoracoscopy/arthroscopy, and an MRI scanner. We offer referral services in orthopaedics, soft tissue surgery, neurology, internal medicine, ECC and cardiology, enabling you to utilise your nursing skills to your full potential with an interesting, diverse caseload.

Applicant Requirements
To succeed in this role, you must be a qualified RVN and should be confident working independently as this will be required in some aspects of the role. While referral experience is desirable, we provide comprehensive training to support your success, therefore we will welcome applications from RVNs of all experience levels and backgrounds. Any additional qualifications, such as certificates, are advantageous, and you should be able to demonstrate clinical competence in standard nursing protocols.
Working Pattern
This is a full-time position working 40 hours per week, with flexibility in how those hours are worked. You can choose between four 10-hour shifts or five 8-hour shifts, depending on your preference. The role includes a 1-in-5 weekend rota, with time off in lieu, and varied shift times ranging from an 8:00pm start to a 9:00pm finish. There are no compulsory night shifts or on-call, however our nurses may be asked to help with cover in the event of last minute sickness/absence.
