Longtown Full-Time Remote
I

Border Vets, Longtown | Part-time 25.5 hours per week | £42,400 + £6,000 annual on-call supplement

Border Vets is looking for an experienced Senior Farm or Mixed Veterinary Surgeon to join our team in Longtown. This is an exciting opportunity for an established farm vet, or a mixed vet with a strong interest in farm work, who is ready to take the next step in their career while retaining a good work-life balance.

You’ll be confident working independently and ready to take on a senior role within the team. Alongside your clinical work, you’ll have genuine scope to help shape the future of our farm service, providing clinical leadership, supporting colleagues and helping to bring further structure and development to the service.

What You’ll Be Stepping Into

This is a 25.5-hour, 3-day-per-week role, with an on-call commitment of one weeknight and one in four weekends for farm or mixed work. The role offers a varied farm or mixed caseload, depending on your experience and interests, alongside the opportunity to contribute at a more senior level. We are also happy to be flexible with hours and rota patterns for the right candidate.

You’ll play an important part in the ongoing development of the farm service, working closely with the team to provide clinical support, leadership and structure. We’re looking for someone who is confident making decisions independently and who enjoys sharing their knowledge and experience with colleagues.

The Team & Facilities

You’ll be joining a supportive, forward-thinking team with a strong focus on delivering high-quality clinical care while maintaining a positive working environment. This is an opportunity to work alongside colleagues who value collaboration and clinical support, while giving you the autonomy to bring your own experience and ideas to the role.

As a senior member of the farm team, you’ll have the opportunity to influence how the service develops and help create greater structure and consistency across the farm offering. Whether you come from a predominantly farm background or are a mixed vet looking to focus more heavily on farm work, there is plenty of scope to make the position your own.

Location & Culture

Based at Border Vets in Longtown, this role offers the opportunity to work within a well-established veterinary team while enjoying the benefits of a genuinely part-time working pattern.

We understand that a senior veterinary role doesn’t have to mean giving up your work-life balance. With three working days per week and a clearly defined on-call commitment, this could be an ideal opportunity for an experienced vet looking for greater responsibility and influence without stepping into a full-time role.

If you’re an experienced farm or mixed vet who is ready for a senior-level opportunity with genuine scope to influence and develop the service, we’d love to hear from you.

How We’ll Support You

We’re committed to supporting your ongoing development and wellbeing. When you join us, you’ll benefit from:

  • Clear career pathways with progression opportunities across primary care, referral, leadership, and specialist roles
  • Funded learning and development including CPD allowance and access to IVC academy training centres & role-relevant courses
  • £1,250 annual Care Fund for every vet
  • Access to mentors, regional clinical coaches, and peer networks
  • Support to develop clinical interests and expand your capabilities
  • A collaborative, values-led culture focused on care, community, and continuous improvement

  • Enhanced family leave and pay across maternity, paternity, adoption and surrogacy
  • BVA membership, VDS cover & RCVS fees
  • Cycle to Work and Green Car schemes (eligibility applies)
