The Business Development Representative (BDR) serves as the bridge between customers/prospects and the sales team. This role’s primary responsibility is to arrange meetings between the Sales team and the customer/prospect to uncover potential business opportunities, cross‑sell and up‑sell prospects. The BDR works closely with the Sales team to craft messaging, targets relevant personas, and schedules productive meetings. All information is recorded in the CRM system to enable efficient follow‑up for sales and ongoing engagement by marketing.
A successful BDR will:
- Have experience mapping customers to identify goals, financials, and key personas.
- Create emails that introduce themselves and add value through each engagement to cultivate successful relationships.
- Be experienced and confident making outbound calls.
- Understand the value of social media and use the right platform as a business tool.
- Have experience with a large portfolio of products and can understand the IT challenges each solution addresses.
- Successfully refer customers to the correct sales representative.
- Monitor the hand‑over process to ensure meetings are attended and outcomes are recorded.
- Uncover new sales opportunities by analyzing first‑party and third‑party data.
Required Skills and Experience:
