The Role

As a Graduate Software Developer, you will be at the heart of our development team, playing a crucial role in shaping both the server-side logic and the user experience of the iungo Academy platform. You will work alongside our senior developers, UI/UX designers, and other colleagues to translate creative concepts into seamless digital experiences while ensuring our application is robust, secure, and scalable. This is an exciting opportunity to grow your skills on a variety of projects while contributing to a platform with real-world impact.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop & Maintain: Write clean, efficient, and well-documented code to build server-side applications, APIs, and user-facing features.
  • Collaborate & Integrate: Work closely with UI/UX designers to implement designs, and integrate front-end components with server-side logic and APIs.
  • Database Management: Design, create, and maintain database schemas to ensure data integrity and performance.
  • Test & Debug: Write unit and integration tests, troubleshoot server-side issues, debug API endpoints, and identify UI bugs to improve usability and performance.
  • Document & Deploy/Ship: Contribute to clear technical documentation for APIs, systems, front-end components, and user-facing features. Assist in managing CI/CD pipelines to ensure the smooth, reliable shipment of code and a seamless user experience to production.
  • Learn & Grow: Actively participate in code reviews and stay up-to-date with emerging front-end and back-end technologies and best practices.

Person Specification

You should hold a degree in Computer Science, Web Development, or a related field, or possess equivalent practical experience (e.g., bootcamp graduate, self-taught with a strong portfolio). You should be a creative, logical problem-solver with a genuine passion for development and a desire to learn.

Knowledge & Skills

  • Knowledge: Familiarity with software architectures, technology stacks, product development methodologies, customer journey research, and User-Centred Design (UCD).
  • Back-End Skills: Strong proficiency in at least one server-side programming language (e.g., Python, Node.js, Java, or C#). Understanding of database principles and experience with SQL or NoSQL databases.
  • General Skills: Familiarity with version control systems (Git), excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, and strong communication skills for a collaborative team environment. Experience creating and consuming RESTful APIs.

Other desirable skills include TypeScript, front-end build tools, CSS pre-processors, cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud), Docker, authentication concepts, testing frameworks, and a GitHub portfolio.
