Position Summary: Working as part of the maintenance team, you will carry out both planned and preventative maintenance, electrical maintenance & installations, mechanical breakdowns, and repairs. This role is important to support the business vision and strategy moving forward. Experience in mechanical maintenance is advantageous, as it will be a significant part of your duties. The role will develop as the site progresses with planned improvement projects, such as automation.
Key Responsibilities:
- Competently carry out general maintenance, installations, and repairs to equipment (both planned and preventative), including:
- Presses
- Forklifts
- Decoilers
- Lift Tables
- Work alongside mechanical resources, including toolmakers and fitters.
- General site electrical maintenance (including offices, shop floor, warehouse, and grounds).
- Overtime call-out duties for emergency electrical issues.
- Support the Continuous Improvement Manager, working alongside third-party contractors.
- Ensure maximum uptime and minimum downtime of all operations.
- Liaise with production/toolroom teams on machine breakdowns, repairs, and other projects.
- Effectively manage breakdowns/failures of equipment and plant by taking appropriate remedial action in areas such as PLCs, Electrical Control Systems, Hydraulics, and Pneumatics.
- Carry out a safe system of work for predictive, preventative, and planned maintenance as required.
- Support factory operatives in troubleshooting machine issues/faults.
- Source and collect replacement parts for emergency breakdowns/equipment failures when necessary.
- Maintain records for planned and preventative maintenance schedules.
- Participate in project engineering including:
- Automation
- Press & new asset installations
- Press maintenance
- Electrical compliance
- Electrical upgrades
- Electronics
Health & Safety:
- Ensure a high standard of housekeeping is maintained in your working area (6s).
- Actively participate in H&S initiatives and events.
- Ensure all guarding and safety equipment is in place and used when needed.
- Wear personal protective equipment when required, including safety glasses and steel toe cap boots.
- Report all health and safety or maintenance issues.
- Ensure health and safety requirements are met and understand all relevant safety regulations.
- Follow site H&S procedures and safe systems of work.
Skills and Experience:
- Must be a qualified and time-served Electrical Engineer with at least 3-4 years’ experience in the repair and maintenance of manufacturing/production equipment.
- Other key skills include:
- Knowledge of power press and progressive die stamping operations preferred.
- Strong proven experience in a heavy industrial environment.
- Ability to read electrical drawings.
- Strong understanding of BS7671 wiring regulations.
- IPAF (desirable).
- Experience working alongside contractors.
- Experience with preventative planned maintenance and TPM systems.
- 17th/18th edition qualified.
- Minimum HNC/Apprentice trained.
- Ability to fault-find PLCs.
- Ideally come from an industrial manufacturing environment.
