The role

The successful candidate will work within a cross functional team(s) within our Video domain to deliver software that meets the needs of ITV’s streaming business. The ideal candidate will be a smart, kind person with a keen enthusiasm for Video Streaming technology. They should be able to display the aptitude and experience appropriate for a senior level video engineer.

  • Stay updated with the latest video streaming trends, emerging technologies, and best practices
  • Be an exceptional leader who will help evolve video playback of our streaming platform
  • Be great communicator who is able to articulate complex concepts to a wide variety of audiences with differing levels of technical understanding

Skills you’ll need (minimum criteria)

  • Extensive experience as a Video Engineer, preferably with experience at a senior level
  • In-depth knowledge of streaming protocols (HLS, MPEG-DASH, DVB-DASH) and adaptive streaming techniques
  • A thorough knowledge of Packaging – both static and Just In Time
  • Familiarity with Server-Side Ad Insertion (SSAI) and Client-side Ad Insertion (CSAI)
  • Previous experiences of using VAST (Video Ad Serving Template) and beaconing
  • Deep understanding of various DRM technologies PlayReady, Widevine and Fairplay and their associated different levels L1/3 SL2000/3000
  • Understands the basics of video codecs (H.264, H.265, VP9, AV1)
  • Good understanding of CDN configuration and can independently resolve issues
  • General AWS experience (Lamba, EKS etc)

  • Unix command line and basic systems administration
  • Experience of QoS monitoring tools
  • Experience with data querying at scale to identify issues and performance, e.g. Athena, Splunk, Grafana.

  • Understanding of monitoring and performance concerns
  • Understanding and application of software design and architectural patterns
