The role is responsible for providing guidance on organisational welfare practices (policies, procedures and processes) for programme participants to a wide range of teams globally. It involves the effective administration and coordination of participant welfare systems across ITV Studios and Media and Entertainment divisions (including commissioned and third-party productions). Additionally, the role may be called upon to help coordinate the company's response to a significant welfare incident (e.g., a participant experiencing self-harm, harm to others, or other escalated mental health concerns).

The team is part of the Global Risk Operations (GRO) team, dedicated to supporting all ITV personnel in managing risks, ensuring duty of care, and safeguarding across diverse production environments. The team is instrumental in maintaining a safe and secure workplace, enabling staff to perform at their best.

Responsibilities:

  • Advise and support ITV’s Health and Safety Risk Advisors to help ensure effective delivery of welfare risk management advice directly to productions.
  • Collaborate with GRO, Medical Advisors, and other specialists to ensure that all organisational welfare practices are consistent with the Company’s requirements, laws, industry standards, and best practices.
  • Use relevant health and reporting systems (SPOT & RMT) to triage and document where support or mitigations are required for low, medium and high-risk productions.
  • Maintain the vetted list of Mental Health Advisors to Productions.
  • Maintain Compass and the Commissioning pages of ITV’s external website to reflect the latest guidance and advice.
  • Support the primary investigator in conducting reviews of significant welfare incidents.
  • Provide non-clinical assistance in crisis management situations where duty of care is a significant concern.
  • Collect relevant data related to participant welfare.
  • Identify where participant welfare needs to be strengthened and supported by conducting structured risk assessments, audits and evaluations as needed.
  • Act within their own area of expertise and refer enquiries to the appropriate service.
  • Communicate clearly and effectively at all levels of the organization, both verbally and in writing.
  • Conduct effective meetings and accurately document minutes.
  • Prepare comprehensive reports for formal Health & Safety and Duty of Care meetings.
  • Ensure appropriate follow-up on incidents, accidents and near misses within the designated area of responsibility.
  • Demonstrate personal skills needed to serve as a Safety & Welfare Advisor for low, medium and high productions.
  • Draft risk assessments and other safety documentation for assigned productions.
  • Collaborate with different areas of the business to develop risk assessment documentation and recommend suitable corrective actions.
  • Perform DSE assessments, contractor vetting and routine Health & Safety inspections.

Skills you’ll need (minimum criteria):

  • Bachelor's degree in Risk Management or Health & Safety.
  • Experience in Risk Management, Health & Safety or related roles i.e. NEBOSH General Certificate (Level 3) or Diploma (Level 6).
  • Eligible to be / or a Certified (or equivalent) member of a relevant professional body, i.e. IOSH.
  • Experience in Risk Management or Health & Safety related roles.
  • Experience in risk management and reporting.
  • Experience working in a health and safety, medical or welfare role in TV, Film, Media or related corporate field.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to influence and educate staff at all levels.
  • Experience with crisis management and incident response.
  • Ability to maintain a calm and effective approach in difficult situations.

Please note that both national and international travel will be required for this role, therefore a degree of flexibility is essential. You will also need to be flexible regarding contact outside of standard office hours and be available to provide support in the event of an out-of-hours emergency. Some weekend work may also be necessary, depending on production filming schedules.
