We are looking for Camera Assistants to join our freelance Talent Pool, based in Leeds. Currently, there are no available positions; however, when opportunities arise, successful candidates may be offered contracts on a freelance basis as required.
The Role:
- Shadow, observe and support the Camera Department, learning the specifics of Camera Assisting.
- Develop a good understanding of how the Camera and Grips Departments work together to achieve unit efficiency and high quality output during preparation, rehearsal or transmission of the production, delivering high quality pictures in line with the director’s vision and interpretation.
Skills you’ll need (minimum criteria):
- Experience working as a Camera Assistant or Technical Assistant in a similar drama production with an understanding of television production processes.
- Experience with rigging, derigging camera equipment; cable clearing; charging camera batteries; setting up monitors on location; assisting with focusing and tracking.
- Demonstrable interest in camera and lens/lighting techniques and a basic understanding of camera mountings, dolly, track and cranes.
- Ability to determine what makes a good shot and how camerawork enhances creative storytelling.
- Valid driving licence; ability to load equipment and drive from studio base to location.
- Ability to thrive in a fast‑paced environment and to liaise professionally with various individuals and departments.
- Flexibility, reliability, punctuality and organisation, with a willingness to work long hours under pressure.
- Qualitative assessment and correction of colourimetry of video images; spotting colour or quality camera‑related issues.
- Adherence to studio and shoot etiquette and discipline.
- Manual handling experience; knowledge of safe lifting and carrying.
- High degree of diplomacy, discretion and confidentiality.
