ITV Tyne Tees is looking for an On-Screen Journalist to join our news team based in Gateshead. This role involves delivering high-quality, trustworthy journalism on television, ITVX, and online.
The successful candidate will have:
- A strong track record in journalism with great story-telling ability.
- Sound knowledge of broadcast regulation and the law.
- Experience in using digital media to extend the reach of journalism.
- Excellent communication and team-working skills.
- Experience of self-shooting, laptop editing, and live reporting.
Key Responsibilities:
- Generate original and creative ideas for news stories.
- Research and develop story ideas for on-air and online output.
- Maintain a wide range of relevant contacts.
- Ensure diversity, equity, and inclusion in news output.
- Source interesting contributors from the community.
- Present stories engagingly through various platforms.
- Self-shoot items to a high standard.
- Edit packages confidently and creatively.
- Create accurate graphics for bulletins and programmes.
- Write scripts that are accurate and engaging.
- Meet all online and on-air deadlines.
- Exercise excellent editorial judgement and adhere to compliance guidelines.
Minimum Criteria:
- Showreel demonstrating professional presentation and technical ability.
- Strong knowledge of media law and compliance.
- Ability to generate and develop original ideas.
- Strong writing skills with attention to detail.
- Knowledge of the local area and audience engagement.

- Ability to work to deadlines and maintain organisation under pressure.
- Proven ability to build a strong network of contacts.
- Self-motivated with strong decision-making skills.
- Comprehensive knowledge of national and regional news.
- Willingness to embrace changes in technology.
