Commissioning Editor, Entertainment and Reality – ITV

The role
To find and develop high-end entertainment and reality content throughout the commissioning process and manage programmes in accordance with the editorial strategy.
Key responsibilities
- Commissioned projects: Creative management and top-level production of a broad range of entertainment and reality projects from sign-off to delivery. Develop formats, identify on- and off-screen talent, align creative ambition with budget, view cuts for final sign-off by the Director of Entertainment and Reality.
- Keep across key production-cycle dates and ensure on-time delivery.
- Ensure series/programmes comply with editorial guidelines and keep contributors aligned while tracking editorial policy issues.
- New ideas/Creative Strategy: Develop new formats for available slots, communicate commissioning strategy to internal and external suppliers, direct development process, and foster innovative approaches to mainstream ideas.
- Assist in preparing ideas for commissioning summit meetings (final stage before sign-off).
- Identify commercial and non-linear opportunities for new and existing projects.
- Identify ways to refresh returning formats.
- Ideas Management: Respond rapidly to proposals, identify those of interest, and provide constructive feedback on those not selected. Maintain positive relationships with internal and external suppliers. Monitor and keep proposals log up to date.
- Building Relationships: Maintain positive relationships with talent, suppliers and internal departments. Help identify best off-screen and on-screen talent for key projects.
- Commissioning Team Support/Strategy: Assist in preparing strategy documents, conference speeches, commissioning forms for business sign-off, awards submissions, and identifying clips for showreels and trailers as directed by the Director of Entertainment and Reality.
Skills and qualifications
- Minimum criteria: An established industry figure with a track record of delivering exceptional programming; considerable experience in entertainment and reality with producer experience at series producer level or above; proven success in developing and producing entertainment and reality programming; in-depth knowledge of the broadcast landscape and a broad network of contacts with independent suppliers, ITV Studios, talent; strong understanding of editorial policy and compliance; clear sense of what works for ITV and its audience.
- Other key criteria: Excellent communicator; ability to build and maintain relationships with UK and international producers and broadcasters; creative thinking with strong knowledge of entertainment and reality formats; ability to anticipate problems and deliver solutions; focus on long-term objectives with attention to day-to-day issues; solid understanding of compliance, legal and ITV Trust matters; awareness of Health and Safety and risk assessment policies; commitment to diversity and reflecting diverse communities; interest in developing content online as well as on screen where appropriate.
