The predicted salary is between 28800 - 43200 £ per year.

We are looking for an Audio Describer to provide scripting and voicing of the full range of programme genres. The successful candidate would be part of a vibrant department which is developing a number of exciting initiatives, including live Audio Description, a new programme of additional audiovisual content designed to complement and enhance the regular in-programme AD, as well as exploring the use of live AD.

The role directly interfaces with our clients’ audiences. The post holder must have high levels of personal integrity and must take personal responsibility for their work. Organised and systematic in approach, with superb attention to detail, they must be able to work well under pressure and to tight deadlines while maintaining a professional manner

This role is based from home, so the applicant must have a suitable office set up with good broadband speeds and must be able to troubleshoot technical issues.

Principal Accountabilities

  • The role involves scripting Audio Description

  • Maintaining and creating programme templates with characters, locations, and episode synopsis (collaborative working)

  • Understanding and employing different ‘admin’ procedures such as breaks, shot changes, and notes to the voiceover

  • At a point to be agreed with the Audio Description Production Manager, the job holder will progress to voicing Audio Description:

  • Create voiced recordings of scripts

  • Understand and monitor audio levels and maintain awareness of recording equipment

  • Training in Auphonic software (audio QC)

  • Comprehensive QC of voice files

  • Knowledge sharing/collaborative working (feeding back to scripters on their work)

  • Reversioning Audio Description files from archive content

  • Including audio editing

  • Participate fully in a continuous process of performance improvement on a team and individual level, including the training of new ITV staff

  • Any other duties that may be required by management from time to time

  • Communication- Strong written and verbal skills to work effectively and diplomatically with contacts at all levels including clients, colleagues, regulators and viewers

  • Planning and Organising- Able to think ahead proactively, to establish an efficient and appropriate course of action for self and others. Prioritise and plan activities with excellent attention to detail, taking into account all the relevant issues and factors to manage time effectively

  • Working under Pressure – Able to maintain attention to detail, multi-task and deliver to a tight transmission/publication deadline. Works productively in high a pressure environment and keeps emotions under control. Learns from setbacks

  • Managing Relationships – To build and maintain effective working relationships. Work with others to be part of a team, as opposed to working separately or competitively. Self-aware and sensitive to impact on others. Persuades and influences colleagues and customers at all level

  • Accountability- Takes ownership and responsibility, an exponent of best policy and practice and ensures confidentiality of data, content and information are preserved

  • Technical- Has a good knowledge of AD technology and ability to problem solve any issues. Seeks improvements in working practices and use of technology

Skills you’ll need (minimum criteria)

  • An excellent standard of written English, including spelling and grammar with strength in creative writing

  • A clear and confident speaking voice suitable for recording

  • An ability to work under time pressure and in a broadcast environment and maintain quality at all times

  • Great team working skills

  • Meticulous attention to detail able to review work done by others to ensure 100% accuracy

  • Ability to learn and adapt to new technologies
