Long-term contract, working for a maintenance contractor, based around Southampton. Due to contract wins, our client is looking to increase their in-house workforce with a General Operative. This role is similar to a General Operative position but does not require the same level of qualifications or experience. You will be supporting day-to-day repairs, maintenance, and specialist cleaning works across domestic properties. You must hold a full UK driving licence as a company vehicle will be supplied for this role.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out minor handyman and general maintenance tasks
- Support trades on damp, mould, and preservation works
- Undertake cleaning of gutters using an automated gutter hoover system
- Carry out three-stage mould wash treatments
- Assist with and complete basic painting and decorating
- Complete small-scale repairs such as:
- Fixing doors, locks, and handles
- Minor plumbing tasks (e.g., tap changes, unblocking sinks)
- Basic patch repairs
What You Need to Bring to the Role
- Basic maintenance / handyman or labouring experience
- Willingness to learn and develop new skills
- Good communication and customer service skills
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
- Basic IT skills (use of PDA/mobile device)
- Understanding of health and safety on site
- Previous experience in social housing or occupied properties (desirable but not essential)
- Strong work ethic with attention to detail
- Problem-solving attitude

- Full UK driving licence required (company van provided)
