Overview

SW-012-FIREDWok-222 — Fire Door Installer - Prison Environment

Location: Woking, Surrey

Salary: £230 - £240 per day

Contract: Initial 2-3 months, with ongoing work available in other prisons

Hours: Monday to Friday, 39 hrs/week

Security: This role will be working inside a Category C Prison. Initial vetting is not required, but a full security clearance check will be carried out for continued work within the prison service.

Key responsibilities

  • Install and upgrade certified custodial fire doorsets to compliance standards.
  • Fit and adjust hinges, closers, locks, latches, intumescent strips, and smoke seals.
  • Undertake remedial works on existing doorsets to ensure full compliance.
  • Accurately record installations and remedials for compliance records.
  • Work collaboratively with on-site estates and contractor teams.
  • Ensure all work complies with FIRAS/BM Trada requirements and prison H&S/security procedures.

What you need to bring

  • Proven experience as a Fire Door Installer with knowledge of certified doorsets (custodial experience highly desirable).
  • FIRAS, BM Trada, or equivalent certification desirable (or experience working under such schemes).
  • NVQ Level 2/3 in Carpentry & Joinery (or time-served experience).
  • Ability to work in a secure environment and follow strict procedures.
  • Previous experience in prisons, healthcare, education, or other secure/public buildings desirable but not essential.
  • A calm, patient approach to working in a stop-start secure environment where flexibility is essential.

Additional notes: These are specialist custodial fire doors, not standard timber fire doors. Prisons use heavy-duty steel fire doors designed for fire resistance, security, and suicide-prevention.
