The role & about the client: ITS Building People are recruiting on behalf of a leading specialist contractor delivering complex projects across the data centre, critical infrastructure and energy sectors. Our client is an established design, engineering and construction business with an excellent reputation for delivering technically challenging projects throughout the UK. Due to continued growth, they are seeking an experienced Senior Engineer to join their team on a major hyperscale data centre development in West London.
This flagship project involves the construction of 18 data halls, each approximately 1,250m², providing around 24MW of total usable IT power. The development also includes a High Voltage Electrical Compound, Medium Voltage Energy Centres, a Visitor Reception Centre and extensive associated infrastructure, landscaping and external works.
The successful candidate will be responsible for the day-to-day engineering delivery of allocated project packages, providing technical leadership during construction, coordinating engineering activities and ensuring works are delivered safely, efficiently and in accordance with approved design information, quality standards and project governance requirements.
Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Provide day-to-day engineering support to construction teams across allocated work packages.
- Lead the engineering delivery of assigned packages, ensuring technical compliance, quality and programme objectives are achieved.
- Coordinate engineering resources and manage technical priorities throughout construction.
- Support workface planning and construction sequencing to ensure engineering deliverables are available ahead of site activities.
- Identify engineering constraints and implement mitigation measures to maintain programme.
- Manage technical queries, RFIs and engineering communications between design and construction teams.
- Coordinate design interfaces, temporary works interfaces and engineering approvals.
- Support the Temporary Works Coordinator by ensuring temporary works requirements are implemented and managed effectively.
- Ensure all works are delivered in accordance with approved drawings, specifications and construction methodologies.
- Implement inspection and testing requirements in accordance with project quality procedures.
- Support the management of NCRs, corrective actions and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Monitor engineering progress, maintain engineering records and produce technical reports.
- Escalate engineering risks and technical issues affecting programme, quality or safety.
The ideal candidate will have/be:
- Degree qualified in Civil, Structural, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
- Experience delivering engineering packages on major construction or infrastructure projects.
- Strong understanding of construction methodologies, sequencing and engineering best practice.
- Experience coordinating technical queries, RFIs and engineering documentation.
- Experience supporting Temporary Works coordination.
- Excellent knowledge of quality assurance, inspections and engineering compliance.
- Previous data centre or mission-critical project experience is highly desirable.
- Working towards Chartered Engineer status (desirable).
- CSCS Manager Card.
- Strong communication, organisational and problem-solving skills.
