The role & about the client: ITS Building People are recruiting on behalf of a leading Tier 1 main contractor with an excellent reputation for delivering complex education, commercial, healthcare and public sector projects throughout the South East. Due to continued growth and a strong project pipeline, they are looking to appoint an experienced Site Engineer to join their construction team in Reading. This is an excellent opportunity to work on large-scale projects where you will play a key role in engineering delivery, setting out, quality assurance and technical support throughout the construction process. Working closely with the Project Manager, Site Management team and subcontractors, you will help ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently and to the highest quality standards.
Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Carry out all setting out and surveying duties using robotic total stations and digital surveying equipment.
- Interpret drawings, specifications and technical information, identifying discrepancies and raising technical queries where required.
- Support the planning and sequencing of construction activities to maintain programme milestones.
- Coordinate subcontractors and specialist trades, ensuring works are completed in accordance with approved drawings and specifications.
- Monitor construction quality through inspections, QA processes and digital reporting platforms.
- Prepare and maintain accurate site records, engineering documentation and site diaries.
- Arrange and witness testing of materials and completed works.
- Assist with procurement by identifying material requirements and supporting timely deliveries.
- Work closely with consultants, designers and the wider project team to resolve technical issues quickly and efficiently.
- Ensure compliance with health, safety, environmental and quality management procedures.
- Mentor Graduate and Assistant Engineers where appropriate.
- Identify opportunities to improve engineering processes and construction methodologies.
The ideal candidate will have/be:
- Previous experience working as a Site Engineer with a main contractor.
- Strong knowledge of setting out, surveying and engineering principles.
- Experience using Robotic Total Stations and modern surveying equipment.
- Competent using AutoCAD and digital QA platforms such as Autodesk Build, FieldView or similar.
- Good understanding of construction sequencing and site operations.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to build effective working relationships across project teams.
- Full UK Driving Licence.
Desirable:
- Experience delivering projects valued in excess of £50 million.
- Previous experience within education, commercial or public sector developments.
- Understanding of BIM processes, digital engineering or 3D construction techniques.
- Experience supporting temporary works coordination, slipform construction or complex structural packages.
