The role & about the client: ITS Building People are recruiting on behalf of a leading specialist contractor delivering complex projects within the data centre, energy and critical infrastructure sectors. Our client is an established design, engineering and construction business with an excellent reputation for delivering technically challenging projects across the UK. Due to continued growth, they are seeking an experienced Project Engineering Manager to join the team on a major hyperscale data centre development in West London.
This is an excellent opportunity to join a business delivering one of the UK's most significant data centre projects. The successful candidate will provide technical leadership across the project, ensuring engineering excellence, design compliance and quality assurance throughout the construction lifecycle.
Working closely with project delivery, design and commercial teams, you will be responsible for engineering governance, technical assurance and ensuring all construction activities are delivered in accordance with approved design information, statutory requirements and industry best practice.
Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Lead the engineering function across a major data centre project.
- Establish engineering governance, technical standards and assurance processes.
- Own the Technical Assurance Framework throughout the project lifecycle.
- Ensure construction activities comply with approved design information, Employer's Requirements and statutory obligations.
- Provide technical leadership across multidisciplinary engineering teams.
- Lead buildability and constructability reviews to improve safety, programme certainty and delivery efficiency.
- Act as the primary technical interface between design consultants, construction teams and package managers.
- Coordinate technical interfaces across CSA, MEP and specialist subcontractor packages.
- Manage technical risks, engineering change and design development.
- Lead the project's quality assurance strategy, inspections and engineering compliance processes.
- Manage NCRs, concessions and technical deviations through to successful close-out.
- Support engineering teams through mentoring, coaching and technical leadership.
- Produce technical reports and present engineering updates to senior management and client representatives.
- Promote continuous improvement and engineering best practice across the project.
The ideal candidate will have/be:
- Degree qualified in Civil, Structural, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
- Significant experience leading engineering functions on major construction or infrastructure projects.
- Strong background in technical assurance, engineering governance and quality management.
- Experience managing multidisciplinary engineering teams.
- Excellent understanding of design management, buildability and construction methodologies.
- Previous experience delivering large-scale data centre projects is highly desirable.
- Strong knowledge of quality assurance processes and engineering compliance.
- Experience working under NEC forms of contract.
- Temporary Works knowledge and practical experience.
- Chartered Engineer status (desirable).
- CSCS Manager Card.
