The role & about the client:
ITS (Construction Professionals South) are currently working with an established and award-winning landscaping contractor who are continuing to grow their operations across London and the surrounding areas. They are now looking to strengthen their Pre-Construction team with the appointment of an experienced Landscape Estimator.
The business works with a range of developers and main contractors, delivering complete external landscaping packages across both hard and soft landscaping. Their portfolio includes high-specification external works, irrigation, water features, lighting, street furniture, substantial tree planting and ongoing landscape maintenance.
Based from their Burnham head office, this role offers a flexible hybrid arrangement, with two days per week required in the office. You will join a small, experienced estimating team and will have responsibility for managing tenders from initial enquiry through to submission, with project values ranging from approximately £100k through to £10m.
Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Take ownership of allocated tenders, ensuring submissions are accurate, competitive and delivered on time.
- Review drawings, specifications and tender information to establish project requirements.
- Complete detailed measurements and take-offs from drawings.
- Build up project costs and prepare detailed tender submissions.
- Obtain and assess prices from subcontractors, suppliers and the wider supply chain.
- Identify areas of commercial, design or delivery risk and raise these with the senior management team.
- Assist with developing appropriate allowances, exclusions and qualifications within tender returns.
- Attend site inspections and client meetings where required.
- Liaise with clients throughout the tender process and respond to queries.
- Track submitted tenders and maintain an awareness of upcoming opportunities.
- Develop and maintain positive relationships with existing clients and supply chain partners.
- Assist with identifying potential new business opportunities.
- Work closely with the Pre-Construction Director and wider team to ensure tenders are completed to a high standard.
- Contribute to improving estimating processes and developing the wider pre-construction function.
The ideal candidate will have/be:
- Previous experience estimating within landscaping, external works, civils or groundworks.
- A minimum of 5 years' experience in an estimating position within the sector.
- A good understanding of both hard and soft landscape construction.
- Experience pricing and tendering projects from approximately £100k upwards.
- Strong ability to interpret construction drawings and specifications.
- Excellent numerical skills and a good commercial understanding.
- Highly organised, with the ability to prioritise workloads and work to multiple deadlines.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Confident communicating with clients, suppliers and subcontractors.
- A positive and collaborative approach to working within a small team.
- Strong IT skills, particularly Excel, Word and Outlook.
- Experience with estimating/take-off packages such as Bluebeam and Conquest would be advantageous.
- A relevant qualification in Quantity Surveying, Construction, Landscape Construction, Horticulture or a related discipline would be beneficial, although experience will be considered.
- Full UK driving licence.
