ITS Building People are recruiting on behalf of a successful and well-established construction company for a skilled and reliable Freelance Quantity Surveyor. This company is dealing with an upcoming main contracting project and this candidate will work with the Commercial Director procuring for an upcoming project. The ideal candidate will have relevant experience, a strong work ethic and ability to work independently as well as a team. This is for a freelance contract over 2-3 months.
Key responsibilities:
- Procurement of subcontractors and materials, including negotiation, appointment, and contract administration
- Preparation and management of subcontract packages, valuations, and payment certifications
- Early cost control, forecasting, and reporting against project budgets
- Producing accurate tender pricing, take-offs, and subcontractor comparisons
- Valuing works, preparing interim applications, and managing payments
- Assessing variations, change control, and final account negotiations
- Monitoring project costs and reporting on commercial performance
- Supporting project teams with contractual and commercial advice
- Ensuring compliance with contract conditions and commercial procedures
- Liaising with clients, consultants, and subcontractors throughout the project lifecycle
- Work well independently as well as with colleagues
- Assessment and agreement of variations and change control
- Management of subcontractor payments, and final accounts
- Liaison with design team, delivery team and clients to maintain commercial compliance
- Ensuring contractual and financial risk is identified and managed
The ideal candidate will have/be:
- Proven experience working as a Quantity Surveyor for a main contractor on relevant sized projects
- Strong commercial and contractual knowledge across the full project lifecycle
- Confident managing costs, valuations, variations, and final accounts independently
- Experienced in procurement and subcontractor commercial management
- Highly organised with strong attention to detail and reporting skills
- Able to work autonomously while integrating effectively with site and project teams
- Strong communication and negotiation skills
- Proficient with industry-standard commercial and reporting tools
