The role & about the client:

ITS Building People are recruiting on behalf of a successful and well-established contractor with an excellent reputation for delivering high-quality commercial construction projects. This contractor specialises in commercial builds and fit-out schemes, partnering with private clients, developers, and public sector bodies. They are now seeking an experienced and hands-on Working Site Manager to join their team. This is an exciting opportunity for someone with a strong trade background and site management experience, playing a key role in overseeing day-to-day site operations while remaining hands-on where required.

Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Manage all on-site operations, taking full responsibility for the day-to-day running of the project
  • Carry out hands-on work as required, setting the standard for quality and workmanship
  • Oversee subcontractors and labour, ensuring works are delivered to programme
  • Ensure works are carried out safely and in compliance with health & safety regulations
  • Monitor and maintain quality standards, snagging and resolving issues as they arise
  • Coordinate deliveries, plant, and site logistics
  • Liaise with the project manager, design team, and client on progress and any issues
  • Conduct site inductions, toolbox talks, and regular safety briefings
  • Manage site documentation, including RAMS, permits, and daily/weekly reports
  • Chair and attend site meetings, reporting progress against programme
  • Ensure site is maintained to a high standard of cleanliness and organisation

The ideal candidate will have/be:

  • Significant previous experience in a Site Manager or Working Site Manager role
  • Strong trade background (e.g. carpentry, groundworks, or general building)
  • Strong background in commercial construction (new-build, fit-out, or refurbishment)
  • Excellent understanding of health & safety legislation and best practice
  • SMSTS and CSCS card (essential)
  • First Aid at Work certificate (desirable)
  • Confident reading and interpreting drawings, specifications, and programmes
  • Strong leadership and communication skills, able to manage subcontractors and site teams
  • Highly organised, methodical, and able to manage multiple work fronts simultaneously
  • A full UK driving licence (essential)
