The role & about the client:
ITS Building People are recruiting on behalf of a reputable construction firm delivering high quality projects across the commercial, residential and industrial sectors. Known for its hands on approach and commitment to excellence, the company takes pride in producing durable, well finished work while maintaining strong relationships with clients, consultants and subcontractors. This client is looking for an Assistant Quantity Surveyor with at least 3 years experience to be based in the Brighton area.
Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Assist in the preparation of cost estimates, budgets, and tender submissions
- Support the management of project costs to ensure works are delivered within budget
- Assist with subcontractor procurement, including scope preparation, comparisons, and appointments
- Prepare and process subcontractor payment claims and variations
- Monitor project expenditure and assist with monthly cost reporting
- Support the assessment and valuation of variations and progress claims
- Maintain accurate cost records and documentation throughout the project lifecycle
- Liaise with site teams, subcontractors, and suppliers to ensure cost control and timely information flow
- Assist in final accounts and project close-out documentation
- Ensure compliance with company procedures and contractual requirements
The ideal candidate will have:
- Degree qualified or currently studying in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or a related discipline
- 3 years’ experience plus as an Assistant QS
- Strong understanding of construction processes, cost control, and commercial principles
- Confident working with numbers, spreadsheets, and cost reporting tools
- Excellent attention to detail and strong organisational skills
- Ability to work well within a team and communicate effectively with site and office staff
- Proactive, reliable, and eager to learn and develop within the business
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet project deadlines
- Strong work ethic and a practical, solutions-focused mindset
- Full UK driving licence (preferred)
