My client is looking for an experienced and driven Senior Quantity Surveyor to join their civil engineering team, playing a key role in the commercial delivery and financial management of our projects across the South Midlands and surrounding areas. You’ll be responsible for managing project finances from tender handover through to final account, ensuring contractual compliance, maximising value, and supporting our operational teams to deliver success on-site. If you’re commercially astute, proactive, and confident working in a fast-paced civil engineering environment, we want to hear from you.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide commercial support throughout the lifecycle of civil engineering projects.
- Liaise with clients, subcontractors, and project managers on commercial matters, including variations, claims, and changes to scope.
- Carry out site visits to measure and value completed works.
- Maintain accurate and timely cost/value reporting and forecasting.
- Manage cost control, risk, and cash flow reporting across multiple projects.
- Support the preparation and agreement of monthly valuations and final accounts.
- Assess and process subcontractor payments in line with progress and entitlements.
- Monitor labour, materials, plant usage and budgeted resources to ensure project profitability.
- Ensure all contractual obligations and commercial risks are understood and managed.
- Promote a strong commercial culture while fostering positive relationships with clients and supply chain partners.
- Ensure timely and appropriate commercial notifications and record-keeping.
- Lead monthly CVRs and cost reviews, reporting project performance to senior leadership.
- Oversee change management and pricing of variations to project scope.
Requirements:
- Degree-qualified in Quantity Surveying or Construction Management (or equivalent).
- Strong commercial background within the civil engineering or construction sector.
- Solid knowledge of standard forms of contract.
- Highly numerate, analytical, and detail-oriented.
- Strong communication, negotiation, and team collaboration skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and prioritise under pressure.
- Proficient in MS Office, particularly Excel and Word.
- Full UK Driving Licence (essential for site travel).
