An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Trainee Quantity Surveyor to join a well-established construction and property services business within its Estates Division, specialising in small works, refurbishment, maintenance, and minor construction projects. Based from the Malvern office, the successful candidate will work closely with experienced commercial and operational teams, gaining hands‑on experience across a diverse range of projects. This role offers an excellent platform for an ambitious individual looking to develop a long‑term career in Quantity Surveying within the construction industry.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with the commercial management of small works and estates projects from inception through to final account.
  • Support the preparation of cost estimates, budgets, and tender submissions.
  • Assist in the procurement of subcontractors and suppliers.
  • Measure and value works completed on site.
  • Help prepare interim valuations, applications for payment, and final accounts.
  • Monitor project costs and identify potential commercial risks and opportunities.
  • Assist with the administration of subcontractor accounts and payments.
  • Support the preparation of financial reports and cost forecasts.
  • Attend site visits and project meetings as required.
  • Maintain accurate project records and commercial documentation.
  • Work closely with operational teams to ensure projects are delivered efficiently and profitably.
  • Ensure compliance with company procedures and industry best practice.

Skills and Experience

Essential

  • A genuine interest in pursuing a career in Quantity Surveying and the construction industry.
  • Good numerical, analytical, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and organisational abilities.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team and independently when required.
  • Full UK Driving Licence.
  • Ability to travel to project sites as required.
  • Reside within a commutable distance of the Malvern head office.

Desirable

  • Relevant qualification or studying towards a qualification in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or a related discipline.
  • Previous work experience within construction, property, or a commercial environment.
  • Knowledge of construction contracts and measurement principles.
