I am currently recruiting on behalf of a leading Tier 1 contractor with a strong national presence and a secure pipeline of work. Due to continued growth, they are looking to appoint an Assistant Quantity Surveyor to join their commercial team.
This is an excellent opportunity for an ambitious Assistant QS to join a well-established contractor delivering a variety of projects across defects remediation, fit-out, and modular construction. The business is known for investing in its people, offering structured training, mentorship from experienced commercial professionals, and clear career progression pathways.
The Role
As Assistant Quantity Surveyor, you will support the commercial team across multiple projects, gaining hands-on experience in cost management, subcontract procurement, and financial reporting. You will work closely with a Senior QS or Project QS, developing your skills within a supportive Tier 1 environment. This role offers strong exposure to varied project types and genuine opportunities for progression into a Quantity Surveyor position.
Key Responsibilities
- Assisting with subcontract procurement and administration
- Processing subcontractor applications and payments
- Supporting the preparation of valuations and client applications
- Assisting with cost reporting and forecasting
- Managing variations and maintaining accurate records
- Supporting agreement of final accounts
- Ensuring compliance with contract conditions (NEC/JCT)
- General commercial and administrative support to the project team
Requirements
- Degree qualified or currently studying Quantity Surveying / Commercial Management (or equivalent)
- Previous experience in a construction or commercial support role preferred
- Strong numerical and analytical skills
- Good understanding of construction processes
- Excellent communication and organisational skills
- Ambitious, proactive, and keen to build a long-term career
