We are seeking a skilled and reliable Planned & Reactive Electrician to join a facilities maintenance team within a secure environment in Bedford. This is a varied and rewarding role combining planned preventative maintenance (PPM) with reactive repairs across a secure setting. You will play a critical role in ensuring the safe, compliant, and continuous operation of electrical systems on site.
The Role
- Carrying out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) on electrical systems and equipment
- Responding promptly to reactive maintenance issues and breakdowns
- Maintenance of lighting systems (internal & external)
- Emergency lighting systems
- Fire alarm interfaces
- Power distribution systems
- Access control systems
- Conducting electrical testing and inspection (EICRs)
- Ensuring compliance with statutory regulations and health & safety standards
- Completing all required documentation and reporting accurately
- Working safely at all times within a secure environment
Requirements
- NVQ Level 3 in Electrical Installation (or equivalent)
- 18th Edition Wiring Regulations (BS7671)
- City & Guilds 2391 (Inspection & Testing) – desirable
- Experience in planned and reactive maintenance
- Strong fault-finding skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Good communication skills
- Must be eligible for enhanced security clearance
Experience within high-security environments such as custodial, MOD, or healthcare settings is advantageous but not essential.
