Our client, a leading and innovative manufacturer with a strong commitment to operational excellence and continuous improvement, is seeking an experienced Health & Safety Advisor to take ownership of its site-wide health, safety, and occupational risk management function.
This is a pivotal role supporting the leadership team and workforce to foster a proactive and embedded safety culture, ensuring full compliance with legislation while continuously improving systems, procedures, and behaviours across the site.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and facilitate risk assessments, hazard identification, and mitigation strategies across operations to minimise occupational health and safety risks.
- Act as the primary first aid lead and advisor on medical response preparedness.
- Manage relationships with approved Health & Safety suppliers and service providers.
- Monitor and manage the compliance review calendar, ensuring timely internal checks and audits.
- Review and evolve the Health & Safety policy, ensuring it is effectively embedded across the organisation.
- Collaborate with People, Culture & Safety leadership to design and implement improvement plans and track ongoing actions.
- Conduct workplace inspections and audits, identify risks, and recommend corrective actions.
- Stay abreast of HSE and regulatory guidance, amending internal practices where necessary.
- Provide day-to-day support and guidance to managers, supervisors, and employees on all Health & Safety matters.
- Ensure all systems, policies, and procedures are legally compliant and aligned with emerging legislation.
- Deliver statutory and awareness-based Health & Safety training across the workforce.
- Ensure all equipment and working environments are compliant with relevant Health & Safety regulations.
- Maintain accurate records of all incidents, near misses, and accidents.
- Lead investigations into incidents, including full RIDDOR reporting.
- Ensure legal documentation, signage, and health-related communications are maintained and up to date.
- Support the communication of safety information through meetings, bulletins, and toolbox talks.
- Champion and promote the health and safety culture across employees and subcontractors.
- Manage and deliver Health & Safety inductions for new starters and site visitors.
- Oversee occupational health processes, including follow-ups and incident investigations.
- Lead regular Health & Safety Committee meetings and site walkarounds.
- Carry out any additional responsibilities as directed by senior leadership.
Experience & Qualifications
- Proven experience as a Health & Safety Advisor in a manufacturing environment.
- Highly regulated sector experience is advantageous but not essential.
- Strong working knowledge of UK Health & Safety legislation and best practices.
- NEBOSH General Certificate (or currently working towards).
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications including Outlook, Word, and Excel.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with confidence engaging across all levels.
- Skilled in maintaining robust and accurate records.
- Proactive problem solver with a structured and logical approach.
- Demonstrated understanding of how to shape and influence safety culture.
