ITV News is looking for a Scotland Reporter to join our Scotland team on a temporary basis to cover maternity leave. The successful candidate will have a detailed knowledge of Scotland and Scottish politics, experience of covering big stories, a passion for reporting breaking news and a hunger to drive exclusive journalism. The job requires someone who works well as part of a team, enjoys working on the road and can cover a broad range of stories. This role is based in Scotland.

Key Responsibilities

  • The ability to be multi-skilled and produce content for TV and Digital platforms, including ITVX, our news site and social media channels.
  • Produce well-crafted packages and deliver informative lives for ITV News programmes and digital platforms.
  • Passionate about original journalism with a proven record of exclusives.
  • Enthusiastic about delivering fresh approaches to newsgathering and embracing new technologies.
  • Conduct news-making live and pre-recorded interviews.
  • Pitch and deliver coverage ideas for Scotland that impact communities across the nation and show a deep understanding of the ITV News audience.
  • Develop stories for online audiences as well as television viewers, bringing inventive treatments to our digital platforms.
  • Can cover breaking news, travel at short notice when required and enjoy a fast‑paced workload.
  • Able to juggle competing demands and deliver accurate and concise lives and packages under pressure.

Key Requirements

  • A good understanding of all news technologies used in the field and to embrace new technologies – self‑editing, self‑shooting and an ability to publish on digital platforms are desirable.
  • A confident broadcast presence, with experience of television journalism.
  • A good understanding of news priorities and politics in Scotland and an ability to turn that into polished television for UK news – including constructing packages from an input and output perspective.
  • A commitment to creating news coverage that reflects the diversity of Scotland’s communities.
  • High‑quality news judgement and the initiative to work independently or as part of a team.
  • A to write concisely, with clarity and imagination for television and other platforms.
  • Calm under pressure in all environments, and able to adapt to a changing situation.
