We are looking for a highly talented programme maker to work as a Producer on the expanding daytime output on 5 – which includes the Jeremy Vine, Storm Huntley and Vanessa programmes. The successful candidate must have a strong understanding of news and current affairs as well as daytime debate shows. They must have first class journalism and production skills and the ability to work under pressure. They should be full of ideas for debates and guests, as well as have the production flair to make sure their shows are engaging and entertaining.
We are offering a 12-month contract and the full-time role would involve a five-day working week with a variable shift pattern which could include working the occasional Sunday. Weekday shifts are office based. We would welcome attachment opportunities within the business.
Key Responsibilities:- Coming up with ideas for debates, writing scripts, commissioning pictures and graphics, and taking charge of all elements of production including extra guests, props and studio production
- Briefing presenters and guests
- Keeping across the news and stories which develop through the day
- Overseeing a team of assistant producers and researchers
- Outputting the programme from the gallery
- Making decisions on legal issues, and taste and decency, in accordance with Ofcom regulations and the ITN compliance manual

Key Requirements:- A detailed knowledge of news and current affairs
- The ability to spot a good talking point which will generate debate and callers
- First class production skills to turn that talking point into engaging television
- Strong news judgement, editorially creative and imaginative
- Enthusiastic and passionate
- Highly organised with the ability to prioritise workload efficiently and manage multiple projects
- Must be able to work quickly and accurately under pressure
- Excellent communication skills (verbal/written/visual) and interpersonal skills
- The highest standards of accuracy and attention to detail around often complex and controversial material
- Adept at working independently – a self-starter, comfortable at being stretched
- Experience of legal situations and understanding of media law and ITN Legal Compliance procedures
- Calm under pressure with the ability to adapt and be flexible in task and role
- Ability to work to tight deadlines
- Previous experience of outputting live TV
