Channel 4 News is seeking a Specialist Multimedia Producer to join its digital team. This role is responsible for delivering high-impact, high-quality journalism to a global audience across multiple platforms, including YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, and Facebook. The successful candidate will produce creative social news video in a variety of formats, as well as contribute to in-depth video on demand packages, breaking news and explainers. The focus is on providing rigorous analysis and context to the day’s most significant stories, as well as creating content that platforms under-reported and under-represented stories, communities and topics.
Key Responsibilities:
- Editorial Leadership: Oversee daily digital output by contributing to the Online News Editor shift and contribute to editorial meetings to ensure delivery of distinctive digital news.
- End-to-End Production: Research, script, and produce journalistically robust and technically outstanding social and original VOD content.
- Smart and Creative Treatment: Develop imaginative visual treatments for complex stories to ensure compelling delivery for social audiences.
- Standards & Compliance: Ensure all output meets the highest editorial standards, remains accurate, and complies with media law and relevant regulations.
- Project Management: Lead and collaborate with production teams, including reporters, producers and independent contributors, to deliver to C4 News standards.
- Knowledge Sharing: Serve as a digital ambassador by sharing best practices and innovative storytelling techniques to the wider newsroom.
- Operational Flexibility: Support the output of other news-desk or programme teams as required, following necessary training.
- Fieldwork: Be comfortable operating in the field, both domestically and internationally, particularly during breaking news events.
Key Requirements:
- Experience: 5+ years of video journalism experience with a proven track record of producing content that delivers large audiences on multiple platforms and in multiple formats.
- Digital Expertise: A digital native with a deep understanding of the current social media news landscape and platform-specific nuances.
- Editorial Judgement: Strong ability to provide depth and context to complex and controversial news stories, maintaining the highest standards of accuracy.
- Post-Production Skills: High-level proficiency in Adobe Premiere Pro and Photoshop.
- Visual Storytelling & Writing: A flair for visual expression and excellent writing ability for both short-form social video and longer-form news packages and explainers.
- Leadership & Innovation: Ability to take the lead on substantial digital projects, overseeing teams and innovating formats.
- Safety & Policy: Highly developed understanding of media law and OFCOM guidelines for broadcasters.
- Operational Resilience: Ability to work autonomously, remain calm under pressure, and meet strict deadlines in a fast-turnaround news environment.
- Professionalism & Teamwork: Strong interpersonal skills and personal authority, with a deep understanding of the Channel 4 News brand, output, and editorial focus.
Desirable experience and skills:
- Technical Production: Camera-operator experience (in studio or on-location).
- Motion graphics: Production of motion graphics to enhance news storytelling.
- Broadcast: Working in a television newsroom and successfully adapting and maximizing linear television output for digital audiences.
