The Role

Good Morning Britain is looking for an outstanding Content Editor to help lead our live news output and shape the stories that set the national news agenda every morning. This is a senior role in a 24-hour newsroom. You will have strong editorial judgement and be able to make decisions quickly. You will take ownership of the programme’s daily news agenda combining authoritative journalism with engaging, accessible storytelling that resonates with our UK audience. Working alongside Multiskilled Producers, Deputy Content Editors, Correspondents and Presenters you will play a key role in delivering confident, dynamic live television, making clear editorial decisions under pressure and setting the tone for the programme each day. If you thrive in a live environment, have a strong instinct for what makes compelling morning television, and are passionate about connecting audiences with the stories that matter then this role is for you.

  • Lead the day-to-day delivery of news output on Good Morning Britain, shaping a running order that is urgent, engaging and agenda-setting.
  • Select and prioritise stories, deploying teams and resources effectively in a live, continuously evolving news environment.
  • Work closely with Producers, Correspondents, Presenters and Gallery to deliver seamless, high-quality live broadcasts.
  • Write and oversee scripts that are clear, sharp and tailored to a breakfast audience.
  • Make decisive editorial calls on story selection, treatment and programme tone under significant time pressure.
  • Deliver a balanced mix of content, from major breaking news and politics to international stories and human interest pieces.
  • Lead editorial meetings, setting clear direction and ensuring teams are aligned on priorities and delivery.
  • Collaborate closely with ITV News, Digital and ITVX to maximise reach and impact across platforms.
  • Drive creative storytelling, making full use of live production, visuals, graphics and guest contributions.
  • Take responsibility for compliance, legal and editorial standards, including taste and decency decisions.
  • Reflect the diversity of the UK in both contributors and storytelling.
  • Support and develop team members, fostering a collaborative, high-performing newsroom culture.

These are the main requirements of the role and is not an exhaustive list of duties. It is intended to reflect the nature, range, and context of the work, which will change over time.

  • Significant experience producing or editing live daily news programmes in a broadcast newsroom.
  • Proven ability to lead output in a fast-paced, high pressure live environment.
  • Strong editorial judgement and a clear understanding of the UK and global news agenda.
  • A confident decision maker who thrives under pressure and can set direction quickly and clearly.
  • A creative storyteller who understands how to make news engaging and accessible for a mainstream audience.
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills, with the ability to inspire and direct teams in real time.
  • Strong understanding of visual storytelling, including live links, video and graphics.
  • Experience of working across platforms and an appreciation of how content travels beyond linear TV.
  • Solid knowledge of compliance, legal frameworks and editorial standards.
  • A commitment to diversity, inclusion and telling stories that reflect modern Britain.

Reasonable adjustments to the recruitment process will be offered, if required, due to a disability or health condition. We also recognise the importance of a good work life balance, so we do everything we can to accommodate flexible working, including part-time and job shares for all our roles. Please just let us know in your application, or at any stage throughout the process, if this is something you want to explore.
