Working within the ITV News Crew department, you'll shoot and edit high-quality content for ITV News, covering some of the UK's biggest stories. You'll see stories through from commission to transmission where required, contribute creative ideas to enhance visual storytelling, and respond confidently to breaking news in a fast-paced environment. While the role is primarily camera-focused, you'll be expected to make strong editorial contributions, with opportunities to conduct interviews and help shape stories where appropriate.
This 12-month role offers outstanding experience across national and international news and is an ideal stepping stone for someone looking to build a long-term career in network news.
Key Responsibilities:
- To operate a camera and associated equipment, including sound equipment to ITV broadcast standards
- To use lighting equipment effectively, reliably and creatively to a high technical standard with training
- To , after training, edit packages in the field, on the day, to tight deadlines
- To support other journalists by researching and fixing stories on the ground and carrying out interviews as required
- To take a keen interest in News and be up to date with current issues
- To devise and suggest creative ideas for pieces and distinctive ways to illustrate stories and interviews
- To ensure fast, efficient delivery of material from the field for publication on all of our platforms
- To crew live reports
- To liaise effectively with the news desks and programme desks regarding deployments and operational/editorial requirements
- To work under own initiative to capture the best footage and be adaptable to the changing demands of breaking or developing news
- Maintenance of equipment to ensure daily reliability
- Responsible for health and safety in the field
Key Requirements:
- Practical experience as a camera operator
- Experience in Premier Pro would be desirable
- Passion for fair and balanced story telling
- Experience in conducting on camera interviews
- Effective interpersonal skills, particularly a high level of tact and diplomacy
- Ability to work to tight deadlines, to manage own workload and prioritise
- Robust response to pressure
- Commitment to integrated team working practices
- Constructive, creative and enabling approach to problem solving
- A valid driving licence
- Basic computer and IT skills
- An understanding of the importance of reporting on and reflecting all of the UKs communities
- Good knowledge of Ofcom regulations and the ITN compliance manual
- Awareness of Health and Safety requirements
- Awareness and understanding of the financial implications of all decision making
- An understanding of OneITV News and a willingness to work well with all broadcast partners
