What are we looking for

The IT Business Systems Manager is responsible for the strategic ownership, delivery and ongoing optimisation of core business systems. This includes ERP, WMS, MES, CRM and related integrations that support operational, financial and supply‑chain functions. The role ensures that business systems are secure, compliant, integrated and aligned with business objectives, enabling efficient manufacturing operations, data‑driven decision‑making and future growth. Working closely with operational stakeholders, the role translates business requirements into effective, scalable systems while maintaining service continuity and governance.

Responsibilities

  • Business Systems Strategy & Governance: Own and maintain the business systems roadmap, ensuring alignment with manufacturing strategy, operational priorities and wider business goals. Provide subject‑matter leadership on the use of technology to enable process improvement, efficiency and scalability across the organisation. Act as the primary authority for business systems design decisions, configuration standards and lifecycle management.
  • Systems Ownership & Integration: Lead the implementation, ongoing support, enhancement and upgrade of ERP (Dynamics 365 F&SCM), WMS, MES, CRM and related business platforms. Own system integrations and data flows between operational, financial and third‑party platforms, ensuring data integrity, resilience and consistency. Ensure systems are reliable, performant and fit for purpose within a manufacturing and supply‑chain environment.
  • Project & Change Management: Lead business systems projects from initiation through delivery, ensuring outcomes are achieved on time, within scope and budget. Own change, release and upgrade management for business systems, balancing change velocity with operational stability. Ensure appropriate documentation, testing and stakeholder sign‑off is in place for system changes.
  • Process Improvement & Operational Enablement: Partner with manufacturing, supply chain, finance and commercial teams to identify process improvement opportunities. Drive optimisation and automation of business processes through effective use of systems and standard functionality. Promote best practice and standardisation where appropriate, reducing unnecessary customisation.
  • Data, Reporting & Insights: Own the accuracy, consistency and availability of business data held within core systems. Define and deliver management information, dashboards and reporting to support operational and strategic decision‑making. Work with stakeholders to ensure data is trusted, meaningful and used effectively. Ensure business systems comply with UK and EU regulatory requirements, including GDPR and align with NCSC guidance and relevant ISO standards. Work closely with IT and audit functions to manage access controls, segregation of duties and system risks. Support internal and external audits relating to business systems. Manage third‑party vendors, implementation partners and software suppliers, ensuring service quality and value for money. Oversee licensing, renewals, and vendor performance against agreed SLAs. Contribute to budgeting and cost control for business systems where required.
  • Team Leadership & Capability Development: Lead, coach and develop internal business systems and application support resources. Coordinate internal teams and external partners to ensure effective support and delivery.

About You

Knowledge and Experience: Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related discipline (or equivalent experience). Minimum 5 years’ experience managing or leading business systems within a manufacturing or industrial environment. Strong experience with ERP platforms and exposure to WMS, MES, CRM or similar operational systems. Proven ability to manage system implementations, integrations and upgrades.
