The Commercial Finance Projects Manager will be pivotal in partnering with the commercial parts of the business to challenge costs, continually develop processes, improve reporting and develop Financial Planning and Analysis (FP&A). The role will be central for Finance improvement projects such as ERP & Reporting improvements and will work closely with the commercial & manufacturing finance team members. The successful candidate will have strong business partnering skills, analytical skills, system skills, high attention to detail, a deep understanding of processes, systems, costing, overhead management, and the ability to influence business leaders to optimise business financial performance.
Responsibilities
- Working with senior management across the business, develop and drive forward a cost challenge programme to ensure that processes are undertaken in an efficient way, providing robust challenge to underlying assumptions and ideas.
- Continuous development and improvement of reporting processes, including reporting formats, system generated reporting and accuracy of data, ensuring this is reviewed and aligned with senior leadership.
- Develop a robust, high-quality system generated cost centre reporting, to be distributed to cost centre owners and senior leadership.
- Manage monthly and continuously improve a monthly cost centre performance review, ensuring challenge is provided to cost centre owners over actions undertaken to ensure efficient management of cost centres and spend.
- Identify key value drivers and provide forward-looking analysis to support decision-making.
- Develop and track KPIs across commercial and operational functions, ensuring alignment with strategic objectives.
- Provide operational efficiency initiatives through financial analysis.
- Support working capital optimisation initiatives, including inventory, receivables and payables analysis.
- Support audit processes relating to commercial and operational finance activities.
- Promote a culture of cost ownership and financial accountability across the organisation.
- Lead the preparation and development of budgets, forecasts, and long-term financial plans, across the business.
- Ensure compliance with internal controls, financial policies and relevant accounting standards.
- Develop a roadmap for overall reporting improvements.
Knowledge and Experience
- Fully qualified Accountant.
- Ability & experience to challenge senior leadership on performance and changing approach.
- Experience of process improvements, ERP system developments, cost management and FP&A.
- Experience with Dynamics D365 ERP & Projects system.
- Strong communicator and relationship-builder with various stakeholders across the business.
- Analytical thinker with a proactive and solutions-oriented mindset.
- Empathetic and adaptable, thriving in a fast‑paced, dynamic environment.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and experience with financial software.
Skills and Abilities
- Strong analytical, strategic thinking and decision-making abilities.
- Effective communication skills – able to deliver bad news and to communicate financial data to non-finance colleagues.
- A proactive attitude with a desire to improve processes and contribute to team efficiency.
