What are we looking for

The EHS Manager will support the environmental activities within the HSE team at ITM Power to maintain and where possible exceed ISO and legal compliance across the ITM Power sites via continual improvement. The position will devise, develop and implement policy, process, work instructions in order to improve the integrated Environmental Management System (EMS). Identify and deliver projects to improve the environmental footprint, reduce waste and improve awareness and interaction with key environmental initiatives.

The role will support the Senior HSE Manager in the implementation and upkeep of the ISO management system and its relevant functions as well as any other requirements as needed. Providing guidance and support to other HSE Advisor’s within the department and aid development of this role.

Responsibilities

Environmental Management

  • Give advice on all aspects of Environmental & Health and Safety requirements.
  • Hold monthly HSE review meetings with operations teams and report as required on department performance.
  • Create and analyse data dashboards on all aspects of waste including utility use for main facilities.
  • Devise programmes and initiatives based on the findings and evaluations of those analyses.
  • Spearhead environmental compliance in line with the aspects and impacts register and legal register with support from the HSE advisors.
  • Devise programmes and initiatives based on the findings and evaluations of these registers.
  • Devise environmental project plans in line with HSE team and seek support when needed.
  • Develop the environmental intranet aspects of the HSE intranet system.
  • Work with Procurement to improve the Environmental performance of supply chain.
  • Create and roll out environmental training packages that would be of benefit to employees and the business.
  • Develop and review current environmental processes, procedures and policies within the business in line with ISO requirements.
  • Spearhead environmental audits including those both internally and externally to the business.
  • Ensure legal compliance in regard to environmental permitting by liaising with operations and the wider HSE team including those of emissions and trade effluent.
  • Audit the performance of the organisation against these permit requirements.
  • Compile and save all legal correspondence and documentation in line with business and statutory requirements.
  • Take part or lead investigations of HSE events.
  • ESG /ISO 14001/ ISO 45001 Compliance.
  • Relay key environmental information when requested or needed.
  • Generate and communicate environmental key performance indicators in collaboration with the Senior HSE Manager.
  • Promote and raise awareness at all levels of an organisation of the impact of emerging environmental issues.
  • Coordinate all aspects of pollution control, waste management, recycling, environmental health, conservation and renewable energy.
  • Work on future products/facilities at design stage to ensure the “green” elements/prospects are realised.

Health & Safety

  • Develop and maintain site-specific health and safety policies and procedures.
  • Conduct risk assessments and implement control measures.
  • Lead incident investigations and root cause analysis.
  • Monitor and report on health and safety performance using KPIs.
  • Deliver training and toolbox talks to staff and contractors.
  • Ensure compliance with H&S legislation (e.g., HSE regulations, RIDDOR).
  • Liaise with regulatory bodies and ensure timely reporting of incidents.

About You

Knowledge and Experience

  • NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent in Occupational Health & Safety.
  • Degree in Environmental Science, Safety Management, or related field (preferred).
  • Proven experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
  • Strong knowledge of UK EHS legislation and regulatory requirements.
  • Experience with ISO 14001 standards and audit processes.
