We’re looking for a Principal Hardware Engineer to lead all engineering activities across a portfolio of projects. In this senior role, you’ll take full technical ownership, ensuring delivery is on time, within budget, aligned to scope, and achieves the highest levels of client satisfaction. You’ll lead, mentor, and develop engineers within your team, providing clear technical direction and reinforcing project delivery standards and best practices. With a focus on innovation and continuous improvement, you’ll drive creative engineering solutions while maintaining strict compliance with ISO 9001:2015, ISO 14001:2015, ISO 45001:2018, and all relevant legislation. This is a leadership opportunity for someone who combines deep technical expertise with a passion for developing people, improving processes, and delivering engineering excellence.
SUMMARY OF ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Ensure the successful delivery of all allocated contracts to maximise financial return and ensure customer satisfaction and legal compliance.
- Oversee the daily activities of the project teams to ensure that contracts run smoothly, achieve their financial return and ensure customer satisfaction.
- Report an accurate position on all contracts to the Engineering Manager including potential risks and opportunities for additional work.
- Ensure the development and management of all allocated operational staff to meet the requirements of the business and maintain a motivated workforce.
- Communicate and maintain trust relationships with staff, shareholders, clients, business partners and authorities.
- Ensure that the company policies as encapsulated within the Noveum Integrated Management System (ISO 9001:2015, ISO 14001:2015 and ISO 45001:2018) and legal guidelines are adhered to at all times and continually improved.
- Provide strategic advice to the Engineering Manager so that they will have an accurate view of the market and the company’s future.
- Delegate responsibilities and supervise the work of Senior Engineers and Engineers, providing guidance and motivation to drive maximum performance.
- Execute the company’s business plans and strategies to achieve sustainable growth and maximise returns through customer satisfaction.
- Provide technical support to the business development, estimating and onsite engineering teams.
- Lead the preparation of technical and contract documentation for issue and analysis of returned tenders.
- Communicate with stakeholders the impact of market and technology change and potential effects on engineering.
- Recommend solutions without compromising quality or service while optimising cost.
- Contribute to new business initiatives and projects and review and communicate the impact on engineering activities.
- Support Sales team in developing product specification and quote activities.
- Appraise and interpret client requirements to ensure that technical, legislative and commercial aspects are delivered on each project.
- Liaise and coordinate with clients, members of the engineering team and contractors on technical and commercial issues.
SUMMARY OF REQUIREMENTS
Experience and Knowledge
- Educated to degree level in a relevant engineering discipline.
- MOD Security cleared.
- At least four years of hardware development experience with demonstrable experience of leading teams in a project environment with a proven track record of delivering successful systems.
- Experience of producing Functional Safety System for the Nuclear Industry.
- Experience of operating within an ISO 9001:2015, ISO 14001:2015 and ISO 45001 environment.
- Ability to add value, reduce costs and make business improvements.
- Proven experience of delivering customer satisfaction.
- Expert knowledge and technical understanding of Systems Integration and cyber security in the Nuclear and Defence Industries.

Company Pre-Requisites
- Pass DBS and BPSS check.
- Have a minimum of 2-1 degree in a relevant subject.
- Have lived in the UK for the last 5 years.
- Have no spent or current criminal convictions.
- Be prepared to work in the Nuclear defence sector.
- Experience in regulated industry (preferred).
