Position Overview
Ithaca Energy is accepting applications for the position of Exploration Geoscientist, reporting to the Head of Exploration, located in our Aberdeen office. The Exploration Geoscientist will be integral to advancing the company’s exploration activity on the UKCS and internationally thus creating value by adding organic growth opportunities to the portfolio which have strategic alignment with the company objectives. As an Exploration Geoscientist the candidate will be responsible for all aspects of data interpretation and integration to mature prospect and discovery assessments.
Responsibilities
- Geoscientist responsible for bringing forward exploration, appraisal and pre-development opportunities that have value creation potential for Ithaca.
- Characterises the subsurface, undertakes regional basin evaluations, develops prospect and lead inventories, matures prospects for drilling, evaluates well results and matures discoveries to demonstrate feasibility to develop.
Technical
- Exploration geoscientist with previous industry experience primarily built in exploration and appraisal projects with a UK Operator.
- Conducts and delivers integrated geological and geophysical descriptions and evaluations at a range of scales to include regional play analysis, concept to lead progression, prospect maturation and discovery evaluation having worked the full cycle G&G evaluation of projects from exploration to early development.
- Has a working knowledge of the foundational plays and petroleum systems on the UKCS which may have been supplemented by relevant expertise from overseas basins which may have sparse or incomplete data.
- Holds a comprehensive exploration skill set which may include but is not limited to: well data interpretation analysis and correlation, well ties using synthetics, 2D and 3D seismic interpretation and mapping incorporating multiple surveys and vintages of data, velocity modelling and depth conversion, geophysical attribute analysis and quantitative interpretation, structural analysis, basin modelling awareness, reservoir evaluation.
- Matures opportunities into detailed integrated prospect descriptions including preparation of assured prospect volumetric and risk assessments to recognised industry standards.
- Has the skills and competency required to assesses new acreage entry. Considers and integrates diverse data types to construct and mature prospects, distilling key components to identify critical risks and establish the mitigation programme.
- Supports well planning and well operations when drilling E&A targets to design data acquisition plans and prepare timely recommendations which support critical decision making. Integrate post-well results into subsurface models and undertakes post-well evaluations.
- Utilises industry standard software (including high proficiency with Petrel) and tools to conduct technical work and applies appropriate and relevant subsurface evaluation technologies.
- Prepares and presents professional-quality materials which should include contribution to the preparation of licence round applications, decision support packages, well investment recommendations, partner and regulator presentations, assurance reviews.
- Has had exposure to Joint Ventures and consortia, in both operated and non-operated roles.
- Proactively and willingly provides mentoring and technical assistance to young professionals.
Qualifications and Experience
- University Degree in Geoscience at Post Graduate level. (Candidates will be considered who have either a geological or geophysical undergraduate degree).
