The Underground Locator plays a crucial role in ensuring the safety and integrity of underground utility infrastructure during construction and excavation activities. Additionally, the Underground Locator is responsible for placing conduit and/or cables in trenches, splicing conduit sections (install couplers) as directed, and placing anchors, pedestals, vaults, etc. to complete construction tasks
Responsibilities
- Identify and mark the location of underground utilities such as water, gas, electric, and telecommunications lines. This involves using equipment like magnetic, radar, and electrical devices to precisely locate these lines
- Walk and confirm bore path, spot utilities
- Ensure proper clearances to install the product per standards
- Record the depth of the tool head as required
- Ensure the drill head is in a good position at the exit pit to connect the product
- Oversee laborers and/or crew members\' work and monitor time usage
- Place conduit and/or cables in trenches, splice conduits sections (install couplers) as directed, and place anchors, pedestals, vaults, etc. to complete construction tasks
- Must be able to operate tamps, jackhammers, core drills, concrete saws, and other miscellaneous equipment safely
- Hand dig with shovels, picks, and digging bars to expose located utilities, access underground vaults and pedestals, and complete trenches
Requirements
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent, and at least one (2) years experience.
- On-the-job training offered
- Must be available to work long periods including evenings and weekends when necessary.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, sit
- Ability to use hands to handle or feet
- Ability to reach with hands and arms
- Ability to climb and balance
- Ability to stoop, kneel, crouch and crawl
- Ability to lift to 75 lbs as needed
- Ability to maintain all safety expectations
- Works outdoors for extended periods
- Exposed to extreme weather conditions
- Must be able to operate machinery in all weather conditions and terrains
- Must be able to work at heights and/or confined spaces
