Itchen College is looking to appoint a permanent Teaching Assistant. The successful candidate will be part of the Support for Learning team that delivers effective support to students with SEND. The main purpose of the job role is to support and facilitate independent learning for students with additional needs. This support will be delivered to one or more students, in the classroom, and on a one-to-one or small group basis. Alongside this, the post holder will be a keyworker for a number of students with high needs.

Hours: 33.75hrs p/w, 39 wks p/a (term time only)
Contract: Permanent
Salary: Support Staff SCP 7-10 (currently FTE £25,951 - £27,733) Actual Salary SCP 7 £20,302.88 p/a

Key Responsibilities

The post holder will play an active part in ensuring that the College’s outcomes for students are achieved; namely, that students are retained, that they achieve and progress. They will be part of the Learning Support team that delivers responsive and effective support to students with SEND. To support and facilitate independent learning for students with SEND. This support will be delivered to one or more students, in the classroom, and on a one-to-one or small group basis.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
  • Good level of general education
  • Experience of working with young people with SEND on a one-to-one or small group situation, in the classroom, in a school or college
  • Experience of mentoring or tutoring individual students
  • Knowledge of special educational needs and disabilities
  • Ability to relate to and support students with SEND
