Team overview
The GSS Officer supports the delivery of Itad’s safety, security and travel policies across staff and external consultants, ensuring consistent application of risk management and Duty of Care standards throughout the project lifecycle. The role plays a key part in coordinating security risk assessments, applying risk controls, issuing security briefings, and supporting travel tracking and review processes within the Practices’ global portfolio. The postholder works closely with Practice based project teams and external travel and security providers to ensure continuous high quality operational support and improvement of systems and procedures. They provide inputs to Business Development, contribute to internal and external risk escalation processes, and support the administration of the Duty Officer rota to maintain 24hr/7-day organisational readiness and strengthen Itad’s overall travel, safety, security, and risk management capability.
The role
- Project Security Risk Management & Risk Controls
- Support project teams in coordinating security risk assessments, risk controls, and mitigation planning across the project lifecycle, ensuring risks are identified, assessed, and escalated appropriately.
- Collaborate Across the Business to Strengthen Global Safety & Security and Travel Policies and Processes
- Coordinate travel risk management activities within Practices, including travel tracking, review processes, security briefings, and the ongoing refinement of systems and procedures. Support the administration of Itad’s Duty Officer rota.
- Coordination of External Travel and Security Providers
- Facilitate consistent, high quality operational support by engaging with external travel and security providers to ensure effective risk monitoring and alignment with Itad’s evolving operational requirements in day to day activities.
- Build Internal Capacity in Travel, Safety, Security and Risk Management
- Deliver or co-facilitate training, briefings, inductions and internal capability building activities, reinforcing a strong culture of travel and security risk management and compliance together with Practice management.
Main responsibilities
- Project Security Risk Management & Risk Controls
- Conduct or support security risk assessments for itineraries, project activities, and country environments under the direction of the GSS Manager.
- Maintain risk matrices and risk control plans, ensuring mitigation measures are up to date and aligned with Itad’s internal guidance.
- Provide security briefings, contextual updates, and tailored advice to project teams, independent consultants, and other external suppliers.
- Support audits of in country security arrangements with partners and hosts.
- Deliver security induction sessions to new staff and consultants.
- Support the development and maintenance of project level risk registers, ensuring security related risks are recorded, monitored, and appropriately escalated.
- Participate in internal risk escalation processes, raising issues with the GSS Manager where needed.
- Provide inputs during BD proposal development, including factual contributions to costing, narrative drafting, and donor security compliance.
- Safety & Security and Travel Policy Implementation, Travel Tracking & Continuous Improvement
- Support ongoing implementation and refinement of Itad’s global travel, safety, and security policies.
- Coordinate the travel tracking process, ensuring staff movements are monitored, reviewed, and supported appropriately.
- Facilitate Itad’s travel management procedures and assist in embedding systems across Practice travel administrators.
- Maintain and operate systems for monitoring live risk information, distributing updates and associated advice to deployed colleagues.
- Conduct post travel reviews or debriefs with Practices where required to capture lessons learned and refine internal and external processes.
- Support auditing and staff surveys related to safety, security, and travel risk management.
- Support the administration of the Duty Officer rota, escalating matters to the GSS Manager and internal safety committees where required.
- Coordination of External Travel & Security Providers
- Coordinate routine and ad hoc engagement with external providers delivering travel, tracking, and security services.
- Review service performance to ensure responsiveness, quality, and alignment with Itad’s operational needs.
- Contribute to annual provider performance reviews and market assessments.
- Ensure external partners provide high quality advice, particularly for complex, fragile, or conflict affected environments.
- Company Capacity Building
- Develop and share written and verbal intelligence updates to help teams understand political, operational, and security risks.
- Maintain the incident database and compile routine trend or pattern observations.
- Act as Duty Officer, including out of hours check in coordination and incident escalation.
- Deliver or co-facilitate internal workshops, first aid coordination, and broader training initiatives to support organisational risk maturity.
