About Itad

We are a global consultancy providing evidence, learning and strategy services to help solve complex challenges. We aim to build a more equitable, sustainable, and secure world by helping organisations use evidence to learn and take action. In fast-moving, complex environments, we create space to reflect, make sense of change, and enable informed decisions. Through evidence, insight, and learning, we unlock strategies for better performance and lasting change.

The Role

The GSS Manager leads Itad's Global Safety & Security function, ensuring the organisation meets its duty of care obligations through effective governance, risk management and specialist safety and security support. The role works closely with Practices, who are responsible for planning and managing travel delivery within approved frameworks.

The GSS function provides a high quality technical service to Practices, helping project teams plan and deliver work safely in line with Itad’s risk appetite. This includes specialist advice and practical support for medium, high and extreme risk deployments, including risk assessment, mitigation planning, traveller support and deployment approvals where required. A key part of the role is translating Itad’s organisational risk appetite into practical standards, guidance, decision points and escalation routes that can be applied consistently across project delivery, while also leading on crisis preparedness, travel risk management and continuous improvement of Itad's duty of care framework.

Key Responsibilities

  • Governance and assurance of international travel within Itad’s risk appetite. Provide assurance of travel undertaken by Itad, supporting Practices to deliver travel safely and effectively within agreed policies, risk requirements and duty of care obligations. For high and extreme deployments lead the arrangements.
  • Strategic development, governance and continuous improvement of Itad’s GSS framework. Lead the development and ongoing improvement of Itad's Safety & Security framework, ensuring it remains proportionate, practical and aligned to organisational needs.
  • Governance, risk oversight and operationalisation of Itad’s risk appetite. Facilitate safety and security governance, advise on risk decisions, and translate Itad’s risk appetite into practical thresholds, mitigations, approval routes and assurance processes.
  • Leadership and management of the GSS Team. Lead and develop the GSS team, ensuring appropriate capability, performance and resilience. Work closely with Safeguarding and Supplier Management teams to support a coordinated approach to duty of care, risk management and support for staff, partners and suppliers.

Role Overview

Working collaboratively with Practices, Project Teams and Safeguarding colleagues, the GSS Manager provides oversight and assurance of travel undertaken on behalf of Itad. Whilst Practices are responsible for travel planning and delivery, the GSS function provides governance, guidance and specialist support to ensure compliance with Itad's policies, procedures and duty of care requirements.

The role leads Itad's approach to travel in higher risk destinations, ensuring appropriate security advice, risk assessment, mitigation planning and travel approval processes are in place. Through the GSS team and specialist advisers where required, the function supports travellers and project teams with risk assessments, traveller briefings, incident response arrangements and monitoring processes that are proportionate to the operating environment and risk profile.

The GSS Manager provides a high-quality technical service to Practices, helping project teams identify practical and proportionate safety and security arrangements that enable delivery within Itad’s risk appetite. The role works through collaboration, advice and facilitation, supporting teams to build safety and security into project planning and delivery rather than operating as a separate control function. The role also manages strategic relationships with travel, security and assistance providers, ensuring high quality support, value for money and alignment with Itad's operating model.
