ITAC is currently seeking a highly organized and experienced Construction Director to oversee Mechanical and Electrical Construction activities in the Norfolk area and provide leadership and oversight of project managers and field supervisors. Strong written and oral communication, plus planning and critical thinking skills are what a successful candidate will bring. In this strategic position, the Director of Construction will not only manage the overall construction operations but also play a key role in shaping the future of our projects and ensuring excellence in delivery. The Director will manage, plan, direct and administer policies, work activities and goals for a regional construction office focusing on leadership, profitability, performance, work competency and growth. Responsibilities
- Oversee all activities associated with Mechanical and Electrical construction projects and alongside Business Development
- Represent ITAC in new business opportunities with customers who are a critical part of new project possibilities.
- Secure follow-up work with existing customers based on strong performance.
- Grow staff leadership capabilities and technical capabilities and drive work opportunities for the region.
- Provide sufficient estimating capabilities and proper direction; Oversee the preparation of all proposals, estimates, and budgets.
- Develop revenue and profit projections for projects and overall Norfolk team.
- Review, recommend and monitor annual and long-term budgets to ensure adherence to expense control and achievement of revenue projections.
- Manage and direct day-to-day activities of regional construction staff in line with established policies and establish consistent practices and procedures.
- Establish long-term and short-term planning of objectives for regional office.
- Effectively manage overall planning, manpower projections and implementation of division projects.
- Ensure that the construction team has appropriate staff, resources, and direction required to fulfill financial, estimating, and operational goals and to support business development.
- Oversee project proposals and construction execution phase of contract commitments to ensure profitability and timely execution of work.
- Plan, organize, direct and control hiring, personnel, budgets and policies for the office. Reports to VP Construction.
- BS degree in Engineering or Construction Management preferred.
- 10-15 years of experience in Industrial Construction and project management, design/build, negotiated, and lump sum contracts.
- Effective management of multi-disciplinary construction work, resulting in completion of contracts within time and cost limits.
- Effective oral and written communication skills, strong interpersonal skills, decision-making ability, strong leadership and management skills.
- Preferred experience in the Norfolk area with Federal, Department of Defense or Shipyard projects.
- OSHA training and certifications are preferred.
