We are seeking an experienced Technical Lead to provide technical leadership for a key workstream within the NHS Federated Data Platform (FDP) programme. This role will be responsible for shaping technical design, assuring solution quality, and ensuring the platform is implemented in line with NHS architecture standards, security requirements, and best practice.
You will work closely with Delivery Managers, data engineers, architects, clinicians, and external suppliers to translate business and clinical requirements into robust, scalable, and secure technical solutions.
Key Responsibilities- Provide technical leadership and oversight for FDP solution design and delivery
- Define and assure technical architecture in line with NHS and organisational standards
- Lead technical decision-making across data ingestion, integration, modelling, and analytics
- Ensure solutions are secure, scalable, resilient, and compliant with NHS policies
- Collaborate with enterprise, solution, and data architects to align designs
- Oversee development standards, code quality, and technical documentation
- Act as the primary technical escalation point for delivery teams and suppliers
- Ensure compliance with Information Governance, GDPR, DSPT, and Cyber Security requirements
- Support clinical safety, assurance, and technical governance processes
- Contribute to roadmap planning, technical risk management, and continuous improvement
- Proven experience as a Technical Lead, Lead Engineer, or Senior Architect on complex digital or data platforms
- Strong background in data platforms, data engineering, or analytics environments
- Experience designing and delivering solutions using cloud technologies (e.g. Azure, AWS, or GCP)
- Strong understanding of data integration, interoperability, and APIs
- Knowledge of NHS data standards and governance frameworks
- Ability to communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders
- Experience working on NHS Federated Data Platform (FDP) or similar large-scale data initiatives
- Familiarity with modern data technologies (e.g. data lakes, lakehouse architectures, ETL/ELT pipelines)
- Experience with DevOps, CI/CD pipelines, and Infrastructure as Code
- Knowledge of interoperability standards such as FHIR, HL7, SNOMED CT
- Experience working with system integrators and third-party vendors
- Relevant certifications (e.g. Cloud Architect, Data Engineering, TOGAF)
