An IT Portfolio Manager is required to join a large, regulated organisation to lead a critical IT and digital change portfolio. This is a senior, high-impact role overseeing a wide range of technology initiatives, with full responsibility for shaping the roadmap, driving delivery, and ensuring alignment with wider business strategy. This is a true portfolio-level position – not just overseeing programmes, but owning and coordinating an entire landscape of change.
You’ll be responsible for a team of 10+ Project Managers delivering a broad mix of IT initiatives including software application, data centre migration, cloud migration, network upgrades, and cyber security programmes. A strong technical background is essential. This role requires someone who understands technology at a fundamental level and has previously delivered change from a hands-on or technical perspective – not just managed delivery from a distance.
As an IT Portfolio Manager, you’ll act as the bridge between technical delivery and executive stakeholders, translating complex technical challenges into clear business outcomes. You’ll take ownership of the roadmap, ensuring projects are planned effectively and initiated on time, while proactively identifying risks and resolving issues before they impact delivery. You’ll also play a key role in developing and supporting your team, fostering a strong, collaborative environment that enables consistent, high-quality delivery across the portfolio.
Requirements:- Proven experience in Portfolio Manager positions within complex, regulated enterprise level IT environments
- Strong technical background, with hands-on experience delivering technology change
- Experience overseeing large-scale IT portfolios, such as application, cloud, infrastructure, networks, and security
- Proven leadership skills, ability to manage and develop teams / direct reports
- Strong stakeholder management skills, including engagement with senior leadership and ability to translate technical concepts into business language
- Experience owning and managing delivery roadmaps across multiple workstreams
- Commercial and financial awareness, including managing significant delivery budgets
- Ability to think strategically across multiple programmes and understand interdependencies
- A proactive, outcome-focused mindset – able to take ownership and deliver without unnecessary complexity
This role would suit an experienced Portfolio Manager, or potentially a senior leader stepping down from a more senior position, who is looking to remain hands-on while driving meaningful change across a complex technology landscape.
They are offering a salary of £85,000 - £95,000 depending on experience + bonus + car allowance, and hybrid working, which is flexible with a requirement to be onsite in their Worthing office 8 days per month (these can be spread flexibly across weeks as needed).
