The Role
We are seeking an experienced SAS Architect to design, implement, and govern enterprise SAS analytics platforms, with a strong focus on SAS Viya 4 cloud-native architecture. The role will be responsible for defining platform architecture, ensuring scalability, security, and performance, and guiding development teams delivering analytics and data solutions on SAS. The architect will collaborate with data engineering, DevOps, cloud infrastructure teams, and business stakeholders to deliver robust, enterprise-grade analytics platforms.
What You'll Do
- Design and maintain the enterprise SAS platform architecture including SAS Viya 4 environments
- Define architecture for cloud-native SAS deployments (Kubernetes-based Viya)
- Ensure platform scalability, reliability, and high availability
- Produce and maintain architecture diagrams, design documentation, and technical standards
- Architect SAS Viya 4 deployments on Kubernetes
- Design integration with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP), enterprise data platforms, and CI/CD pipelines
- Define deployment strategies, upgrades, and environment management for Viya environments
- Design DevOps workflows for SAS Viya
Infrastructure & Cloud
- Define infrastructure requirements for compute, storage, and networking
- Work with cloud and infrastructure teams to design container orchestration, auto-scaling strategies, and high availability
- Ensure platform performance and cost optimisation
- Design integration between SAS and enterprise data warehouses, data lakes, streaming platforms, APIs, and microservices
- Ensure efficient data ingestion, transformation, and analytics workflows
Security & Governance
- Design authentication and authorization frameworks
- Implement data governance and access control policies
- Ensure compliance with security standards and regulatory requirements
Technical Leadership
- Provide technical leadership to SAS developers and data engineering teams
- Define development standards and best practices
- Review solution designs to ensure alignment with enterprise architecture
Nice to Have
- Experience with analytics and machine learning platforms
- Knowledge of Python, R, or open-source data ecosystems
- Experience integrating SAS with modern data platforms
- Financial services or regulated industry experience
- Experience migrating SAS 9 to SAS Viya 4
