The British Constructional Steelwork Association (BCSA) is seeking an experienced Technical Manager to join our team. As the national organisation for the steel construction industry, we represent companies involved in the design, fabrication, and erection of steelwork for buildings and civil engineering projects across the UK.

Role Overview

Reporting to the Director of Engineering, the Technical Manager will play a vital role in shaping the technical direction of the association. This position is ideal for a professional with deep expertise in steelwork fabrication and a passion for industry standards.

Salary: Up to £80,000 (Depending on experience)

Location: London (Whitehall) with UK-wide travel

Benefits: Car allowance and employer pension contributions

Key Responsibilities

  • Technical Support: Act as a point of contact for member companies regarding the design and fabrication of steel structures.
  • Standards Development: Participate in the creation and refinement of national and international steel fabrication standards.
  • Working Groups: Manage various BCSA working groups to drive industry progress.
  • Technical Guidance: Help develop and publish practical design and fabrication guides for the sector.
  • Strategic Input: Assist in developing the long‐term technical direction of the Association.

Candidate Requirements

  • Education: Degree‐level education or equivalent.
  • Professional Status: Preferably a Chartered Structural Engineer.
  • Experience: Proven background in the fabrication of constructional steelwork.
  • Communication: Strong written and verbal skills with experience writing technical reports.
  • Self‐Motivation: Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects.

Preferred Skills (Advantages):

  • Experience in the development of national/international standards.
  • Knowledge of fire engineering principles.

Working Conditions

The role is predominantly based at the BCSA London office. Regular travel throughout the UK is required, including occasional overnight stays.
