We are looking for a hands-on leader who can manage, support, and develop a team of Payroll Coordinators, working collaboratively with internal teams and external payroll providers. The role also involves completing second-level payroll checks, maintaining processing accuracy, and supporting the Payroll Delivery Manager with activities related to legislative compliance, service delivery, and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee and coordinate the monthly salaried payroll, ensuring all inputs and controls are completed within required deadlines.
- Provide expert advice and support to the Payroll function on complex payroll and administrative matters.
- Supervise and develop a high-performing team of Payroll Coordinators through recruitment, training, coaching, and performance management.
- Maintain strong working relationships with wider operational teams to support effective payroll delivery.
- Apply a hands-on approach to problem solving and team support to ensure timely resolution of issues.
- Support the Payroll Delivery Manager in ensuring compliant, accurate, and timely payroll processing.
- Complete second-level output control checks in accordance with the payroll control framework.
- Work with third-party payroll providers to ensure delivery against contractual KPIs and SLAs.
Professional and Personal Competencies/Qualifications
- Strong payroll experience, including processing monthly salaried payroll.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
- CIPP qualification (preferred or equivalent experience).
- Experience managing direct reports (desirable).
- Ability to manage internal and external stakeholders effectively.
- Proficient in relevant payroll IT systems and platforms.
- Experience working in both in-house and outsourced payroll environments.
- Solid understanding of UK payroll legislation.
- Strong knowledge of GDPR and data privacy requirements.
