The Catering Assistant plays an important role in supporting the preparation and service of nutritious school meals while maintaining a safe, clean, and welcoming dining environment. Working as part of the kitchen team, you will assist with food preparation, meal service, cleaning duties, and dining hall set‑up, ensuring a positive experience for pupils and staff.

Responsibilities

  • Carry out basic food preparation and cooking duties as directed by the Cook or Catering Manager.
  • Set up and clear dining areas, including tables, chairs, cutlery, and service stations.
  • Maintain high standards of cleanliness throughout the kitchen, dining areas, and food service equipment.
  • Wash dishes, utensils, and catering equipment and ensure items are stored correctly.
  • Monitor and record food storage and service temperatures in accordance with food safety procedures.
  • Ensure food is stored, handled, and served safely and at the correct temperatures.
  • Work effectively as part of the catering team and provide excellent customer service to pupils, staff, and visitors.
  • Display an enthusiastic and positive approach to work.

Qualifications

  • Catering experience preferred, but a positive, can‑do attitude is essential.
  • Good understanding of the principles of food hygiene.
  • Able to follow instructions and use initiative to make appropriate decisions in the best interests of the customer.
